I found this article interesting because it made me realize how recent space images actually are. It is only since the later half of the 19th century that images of earth and outer space have been widely available for public view. Before that, we knew nothing about what space landscapes really looked like. The human fascination with space, however, was not stopped by our lack of technology to photograph it.

Wildly enough, Chelsey Bonestell was painting space scenes with little to no reference and inspiring audiences in the process. His work was exemplary in the way it shaped film and art about space. (i.e. 2001 A Space Odyssey)
